I am no fashionista! But, when it comes to selecting the perfect outfits for your Family Photo Experience, I do have a few simple tips that can make all the difference!
TIP #1: Wear what makes you feel comfortable. You don’t want to be pulling and tugging on a skirt or having your kids/hubby miserable in slacks and a button up shirt if it isn’t their thing.
TIP #2: Avoid baggy clothing. Form fitting clothes that show off your shape are best. I learned this first hand several years ago when I had pictures taken in my sculpture studio with Vann Harris Photography. That cream colored top was one of my favorites at the time! But it didn’t photograph very well. Fortunately for me, I was friends with the photographer, and he politely asked me if I had another shirt. I switched to just a navy, scoop-neck t-shirt and I was amazed at the difference.
TIP #3: Neutral colors are more timeless. Grays, browns, beige, white, black, etc.
TIP #4: If you want your pictures to have a quieter vibe, avoid distracting patterns/logos.
TIP #5: It’s ok to choose outfits that reflect everyone’s personality. Or let your kids choose. If you’re a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl, go with that. If you prefer a sundresses, rock it. My kids currently live in their “fast clothes,” aka non-matching neon-colored athletic wear. I kinda cringe, but this is how I will remember this phase of their life.
TIP #6: Avoid having everyone dress alike! For example, everyone in white shirts and jeans. This was a super popular style decades ago, and dressing this way could instantly make your photos look old, and dated.
TIP #7: Wear clothes that make you feel good! If you feel good, it will show through to your pictures!
